India Smartphone market shipments declined by 6% YoY in May 2024. Consumer sentiments were impacted by extreme heatwave conditions which resulted in postponement of smartphone purchases and prioritized spending on other electric appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners. vivo led the smartphone market for the third consecutive month with 20% share in May 2024 driven by T3 series. Xiaomi moved up to second spot in May 2023 with 19% share, it was the only one among top brands to witness a double-digit YoY growth. It also led the online shipments during the month with 24% share. The online share slightly decreased from the previous month to 40% in May 2024, there were various promotional summer sale periods from e-commerce players, but it didn’t have much impact on the online shipments. Samsung was in second place in the online smartphone market with 20% share as it launched online-heavy Galaxy F55 model.

India Smartphone market shipments declined by 3% YoY in April 2024. vivo retained its top spot 19% share in Apr 2024. It launched Y series, V series as well as T series models during the month. Samsung’s share (19%) April 2024 was its highest since September 2023, helping it capture second position in the smartphone market. For the first time this year, Galaxy A15 5G wasn’t Samsung’s most shipped model. realme was the fastest growing player out of the top 5 with 14% YoY growth in April 2024. It has been focusing on 5G with C-series models and also launched a performance centric new P series into the market. Online channel share increased from previous month to reach 41% in April 2024 as brands filled in channels for summer sale ahead. Xiaomi has continued to maintain its lead on the channel with 23% share.

India Smartphone market grew by 10% YoY in March 2024 and 8% YoY in Q1 2024. Vivo led in Mar 2024 with 21% share driven by the Y and V series, additionally vivo also led the quarterly shipment with 19% share. Xiaomi secured the second spot with 18% share; it is being aggressive in pursuing multi-channel strategy by increasing the number of offline store representatives and working to enhance its financing model. Samsung moved down to third spot in March 2024, but emerged as the leader in the premium smartphone segment (INR>30K) with 34% share driven by its newly launched A-series models. Holi festival sale was observed on various platforms during the month, but it did not have much impact on the online shipment share which was at 36% in March 2024. Indian smartphone market ASP witnessed 15% YoY growth (Retail) and reached to $305 in Mar 2024. The India smartphone market started 2024 on a positive note with 8% YoY growth in January 2024. Xiaomi led the India smartphone with 19% share in January 2024, driven by strong sales of its newly launched number and Note series. The India smartphone market grew by 16% YoY in Oct 2023, driven by the elongated Festive season sale which started early during the month. 5G smartphone models were one of the major talking points for OEMs during the sale, resulting in 5G shipments rising 2X YoY in Oct 2023. Apple and vivo were the leading 5G brands during the month. Samsung led the India smartphone market with 16.4% share in Oct 2023, driven by its increasing focus on the premium segment. vivo was at a close second spot with 16.1% share driven by its T series and the new V series models. The online share in Oct 2023 was at 49% with Xiaomi leading brand on the channel followed by Apple. ‘Big Billion Day’ and ‘The Great India Festival’ hosted by Flipkart and Amazon were the major attractions during the month. The promotions for festive season sale were visible on both offline and online platforms with diminishing differences in offer prices between the two channels.
