Job Description:
Counterpoint is a fast-growing global analyst firm. Our analysts produce a significant body of research that needs to be optimally presented. We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic research associate to assist our research efforts.
Our smartphone research team is the largest in the industry and supports smartphone and consumer electronics brands, semiconductor and component players, mobile operators, other value chain participants as well as financial institutions.
The main focus of this role is to track the market for handsets, from a trade and consumer perspective, in Middle East and Africa, and potentially regions beyond. You will maintain our proprietary tracking databases, as well as take on a combination of responsibilities including delivery of research, growing and managing research contacts across the supply chain, and assisting in custom engagements and projects.
Successful candidates will enjoy working independently, coming up with new ideas to serve clients, while being part of a close-knit international team.
The role will involve:
- Researching, analyzing and tracking relevant data and information to be maintained within our proprietary databases for the Middle East and Africa smartphone market.
- Closely tracking the new launches, marketing campaign and strategy adjustment by major OEMs, and their partnership with supply chain players; Closely tracking key players’ developments in the MEA tech scene, including but not limited to telecom operators, OTT companies, mobile money providers, governments and regulators.
- Participating in interactions with supply chain players, distributors and retailers, to support and expand our research methodologies, articulate our views, and gauge clients’ evolving needs.
- Developing compelling research, and expressing your industry viewpoints to support a rich body of qualitative and quantitative research insights – including custom research projects, client requests, research blogs, reports and whitepapers – by working with various internal teams.
Key Skills/Experience Required:
- You are a university graduate with 1-3 years of relevant work experience, advanced degrees (MBA or other Masters) and work experience in technology or telecoms industry will be a plus.
- You already have interest and basic knowledge of tech, telecoms and internet sectors, and can express your views clearly and concisely.
- Strong quantitative skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Comfortable with writing blogs and reports for different business purposes.
Preferred requirements:
- Experience and exposure to the Middle East or Africa tech scene will be a major plus.
- Familiarity with smartphone OEMs, their channel, product and market environment will be a major plus.
- You are ready to interpret tech trends and can articulate your understanding in an engaging way.
- High level of analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work confidently as an individual contributor as well as being comfortable as a team player, in a multicultural and entrepreneurial environment.
- You are comfortable with multi-tasking and delivering work to a tight timeline.
Location:
- Flexible.
- Preferred, but not required: In a location close to Counterpoint offices (India, UK), or in the target market (Middle East and Africa)
