Global Highlights:
- Global XR shipments volume declined by 6% YoY in Q4 2021. Although VR headsets (Standalone), the single biggest form factor, grew marginally, every other form factor declined significantly, causing this annual fall in overall shipments.
- The shipment share of VR Standalone form factor crossed 90% in Q4 2021, up from 82% in Q4 2020.
- The VR form factor trend has transitioned from tethered to standalone and standalone will remain the dominant form factor until Sony’s next generation PlayStation VR is launched later in 2022.
- Oculus led the market throughout 2021, thanks to the continued success of Oculus Quest 2.
- DPVR captured the second position successfully for four quarters thanks to overseas expansion and by offering hardware customization for enterprise customers.
- Pico continues to show promise with well-received devices and gaining greater resources since its acquisition by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.
