"Uber has partnered with Nissan to supply 2000 e-LEAF with 40kWh battery capacity and 168 mile driving range to Uber drivers in London. Uber has already raised  £80 million to transition to electric vehicles (EV) in its Clean Air Plan. Uber lost its license in London in November 2019 after authorities found that 14,000 trips were completed by drivers using fake identities; it is currently appealing the decision. This electrification deal is a further sign that Uber is trying to engender goodwill in London, the mayor of which is strongly promoting zero emission vehicle use in London. In January 2020, the UK government doubled funding for charging infrastructure. Uber's vision to provide 45,000 EVs by 2025, will also help the UK government to reach zero emission plan. This deal will likely encourage other taxi and ride-hailing companies to promote EVs in their fleet." - Soumen Mandal
