Overview:

In the past few years, investment in AI-enabled teaching and learning has skyrocketed in China and today more than 10m students in the country use some form of AI in their education. Tech giants and start-ups with expertise in speech and image recognition, natural language processing, big data analysis, knowledge mapping and AI adaptive learning as well as education incumbents are all piling in and a new market segment known as AIED (AI in Education), which fuses education with advanced AI technologies, has emerged.

This Viewpoint provides an overview of the AIED market in China with a particular focus on start-up Squirrel AI, a pioneer of AI-based adaptive learning targeting the K-12 student market.
