"Qualcomm has announced a second-generation of its ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, the 3D Sonic that’s 17 times bigger than the previous generation.
The first-generation ultrasonic sensor debuted in the Samsung Galaxy S10. However, it had some issues like slow speed, a small area to read prints accurately and a security issue caused by screen protectors. With the second generation, Qualcomm aims to solve some of these issues by providing a larger sensor. The option to require two simultaneous fingerprint scans also helps increase security levels. This strengthens Qualcomm’s overall ecosystem. With diverse offerings including fingerprint sensors, envelop tracking, RF to antenna components, solutions for wearables and hearables, WiFi 6, Bluetooth and more, Qualcomm is on the path of becoming a one-stop solution provider for OEMs." - Varun Mishra
