Monthly Market Pulse – February 2014

February handset sell through dropped again and even smartphone sales as the Chinese market goes slow as well as the rest of the world. Japan and Korea were the only markets growing in sales units during February. Inventory also drops showing healthy signs for Q2 this year.
Smartphones are now 67% of the market. Android share was 78% of the smartphone market, while iOS share fell to 16%.

Samsung sales are still strong compared to other brands, especially in China. Sales in the mid low price range is the majority. Note III sales are weak overall but strong in China compared to other regions. The worldwide iPhone 5C bargain sale comes to an end after 2.5 months. The iPhone 5C inventory problem seems to have been solved but as a consequence Apple share drops. LG is on a growth streak as it outpaces most peers since the beginning of this year.  Xiaomi continues to grow, even outpacing Huawei in China.

The share of sales in the $400 price band is steady. As the market slows down and the Chinese holiday season ends the sub $100 price band is most affected and slightly dips. 61% of Global Android devices are sold under $200 globally.
