Mobile Devices monitor – Q4 2013

Regional Quarterly Report for Q4 2013 : Mobile Devices

The global mobile phone industry reached 470 million units phones shipments in Q4 2013, seasonal uptick of 6.6% sequentially but remained flat annually. Majority of the sequential growth was mainly due the robust holiday season demand across Europe and North America. However, the demand was weak compared to last year’s holiday season quarter which signals peaking of smartphone demand across developed postpaid markets.
Smartphone remained the key segment within mobile phones growing 35% and thus the total smartphone shipments reached 301.9 million units in Q4 2013. This is the first time smartphone shipments have crossed the 300 million mark in a single quarter.
