"Nitin Agrawal is a great hire for Mapbox as it can help manage investments and also drive newer effective pricing models and streamline the operations a bit and help Mapbox make money. However, if we analyze Amazon-Mapbox relationship - Amazon is an important account for Mapbox for mapping needs and vice versa for Mapbox in terms of AWS storage and cloud. Mapbox has been working closely with Amazon for Amazon Sumerian platform to develop 3D mixed reality apps, which are going to be critical for Digital Twins, AR-driven IoT applications, and location-centric 3D content. This makes Mapbox is a great acquisition target for Amazon, considering it sees Microsoft building Azure Maps to drive extra value add for IoT customers as well. If Amazon also has eyes on developing autonomous systems, it will need HD maps, and the Mapbox size (vs. TomTom or HERE) perfectly makes sense. Though, in terms of capabilities, Mapbox will take a few years to get closer to the big three (add location ecosystem blog link). So in a nutshell, Nitin's hiring could make it easier for Amazon if it plans to acquire Mapbox, worth keeping an eye on how this pans out." - Neil Shah
