Overview:
India’s smartphone shipments declined 27% YoY to reach over 14 million units in Oct. The YoY decline, which is the first ever for a festive season month was attributed to lower-than-expected sell-out and brands sitting on inventory even post online sales.
Chinese brands share declined to 70% in Oct 2022 due to higher shipments from Samsung and Apple. The top five smartphone brands contributed 71% share in the overall shipments in Oct 2022. India’s smartphone market ASP (average selling price) grew 27% YoY. The Ultra-premium price band ($650+) share hit double digits for the first time ever.
Online channels share decreased in Oct 2022, but it remained the dominant channel with 52% share. The ecommerce platforms came up with further festive season promotions and offers which continued till Diwali. We witnessed maximum parity in terms of price discounts and other offers among offline and online channels during this year festive season sale which drove offline share to 48%.
