Overview:
The Indian smartphone market declined 43% YoY in Nov. One of the major reasons was the high inventory build-up in the channels. The festive season’s performance was modest, especially in the entry-tier and budget segments. This exacerbated the worse inventory situation in the market. Chinese brands remained same in Nov 2022 as macroeconomic factors like inflation and unemployment hit lower price bands more where these brands have dominant presence.
India’s smartphone market ASP (average selling price) grew 14% YoY in Nov 2022. The Ultra-premium price band ($650+) kept at double digits for second consecutive month at 11%. For first time, Apple captured spot in top 5 in India smartphone market.
Online share dropped to below 50% in Nov 2022, first time since Jun 2022. The festive period in India ended and with it the online promotional activities by ecommerce players also reduced. The promotion offers on offline channel also reduced, only regular discounts and bank discounts offered by offline stores were visible.
