India Monthly Smartphone Market Analysis 2019 May

Overview:

Indian smartphone shipments grew 5% MoM but declined marginally 2% in May 2019. Smartphone shipments are on the rise since Feb 2019 driven by summer sale and launch of new models. Chinese brands share increased to 67% in India. The trend hardly changes now as Indian brands are finding it difficult to compete in the competitive India handset market.

Online Smartphone shipments reached highest in May since the start of 2019. May was the month when leading OEMs on online channels announced their summer sale- Mi Super Sale, Honor Days, Amazon summer sale, Realme 1ST anniversary sale were some of the popular campaigns during the month. Smartphone market Retail ASP increased marginally by 3% YoY in May 2019, reaching $196, due to a greater contribution of $250-$400 price band and price cuts on models like OPPO F11, F11 Pro and vivo V15 Pro.
