Headphone Jacks are Dead, Long Live the Headphones

"What started with Apple ditching the headphone jack came as a "tech shock" to many who invested hundreds of dollars in multiple wired headphone brands is now going mainstream. The latest brands to drop the headphone jack are OnePlus and now reportedly even Samsung will, in its upcoming smartphones. This sheds light on evolving vendor strategies to firstly - compete and finally match Apple's strategy of pushing expensive "wireless headphones" to extract some consumer surplus. Secondly, timing it right as most of their user base would have sensed that the move to wireless was inevitable. Having said that, USB Type-C has matured and brands such as Huawei are already bundling Type-C headsets with the devices.
