Summary:
“The global smartphone AP (Application Processor)/SoC (System on Chip) chipset shipments increased by 31% YoY in Q2 2024 due to inventory restocking by smartphone OEMs. MediaTek leads the smartphone SoC market with a share of 35%.”
Apple: Apple’s chipset shipments decline in Q2 2024 due to seasonality.
MediaTek: MediaTek shipments declined QoQ in Q2 2024. LTE SoC shipments saw a major drop sequentially. In MediaTek’s portfolio, the 5G penetration is growing in the sub-$150 smartphone segment, which should lead to market share gains for MediaTek, driven by its relative strength in entry-level 5G chipsets.
Qualcomm: Qualcomm’s shipments increased sequentially in Q2 2024, driven by premium and mid- segment. The demand for Snapdragon 8 Gen3 is expected to remain strong due to the Samsung Galaxy Fold/Flip 6 series launch.
Samsung: Samsung Exynos saw a slight increase in Q2 2024 with the premium Exynos 2400 winning market share in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. Shipments for the Exynos 1480 and Exynos 1280 increased in Q2 due to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy A55 and Samsung Galaxy A25, respectively.
UNISOC: UNISOC’s shipments increased in Q2 2024 due to the design wins with Vivo and Xiaomi. UNISOC continues to gain a share in the low-tier price bands (under $99) driven by its LTE portfolio.
