"Despite calls from European Union politicians for in-house cell manufacturing, this is the right move by Bosch to outsource cell manufacturing to CATL. Currently, it has become difficult even for the world’s largest automotive supplier (Bosch) to enter cell manufacturing, given the initial investments, and economies of scale of big battery companies like CATL. Bosch is rightly focusing on its strengths, and aiming to maintain its leadership position in other segments rather than enter new verticals amid a market downturn. CATL, on the other hand, is set to become one of the leading global battery company, aiming for 50 GWh capacity by 2020. Its recent wins include top automakers like Toyota, VW, BMW, SAIC, and others." - Aman Madhok
