Bi-weekly US Model Sales Tracker, 5th Bi-week of 2024

0
Apr 1, 2024

Overview:

  • It was a mixed week for US weekly smartphone sales with demand declining slightly as new models launched in Jan and Feb are over first 5-10 weeks of sales.
  • Apple remained flat with “non-Pro” models gaining share over “Pro” models in terms of overall model mix.
  • Samsung was down with demand colling off for both S24 series, Galaxy A15 series as well as Galaxy A25 series.
    • S24 series is now performing similar to S23 series in terms of cumulative sales for 1st 10 weeks. This is likely due to initial excitement around GenAI features slowly cooling off.
    • Our internal surveys suggest majority customers in postpaid stores were unaware about GenAi features but they were excited about AI features after the demo from store representatives.
    • At this point, we don’t see GenAI features as a driver of increased smartphone demand in the US. the demand is mostly coming from upgraders.
  • Motorola was down due to lower footfall in prepaid and national retail in second week of the month.
  • The market is aligned to regular seasonality trends so far. It is expected to pick up slightly as we approach end of Q1 2024.
