"The ramp going from where they are right now to where Samsung is, it's not that far of a stretch," he added.
Whether Intel overtakes Samsung by 2030 hinges on 18A, according to Counterpoint semiconductor analyst Brady Wang.
"If 18A achieves stable yield and quality by the second half of 2025, it will narrow the gap with TSMC, though still lagging in yield and capacity," Wang said. "In contrast, Samsung continues to struggle with yield and quality issues at its 2-nm node."
