Reports

We expect that the smartphone display market’s OLED adoption rate will exceed that of LCDs for the first time in 2023. While the penetration ratio for LCDs is relatively weakening in the 2023 smartphone display market, the significant decline of LTPS LCDs leads to the immediate growth of A-Si LCDs.
2023 is expected to mark the year in which OLEDs surpass LCDs for the first time in the smartphone display market. The main reason for this trend is the rapid decline of LTPS LCDs. While the adoption rate of LCDs is rapidly decreasing, A-si LCDs are replacing much of the decline of LTPS LCDs, and Flexible OLED is also showing continuous growth.

Reports / May 28, 2021 / Jene Park

OLED continued to grow in 2020 and had a market share of 32%, an increase of 4 percent points compared to the previous year, based on the sales volume of smartphones installed. In particular, the rapid growth of flexible OLEDs is expected to continue in 2021 and beyond

Reports / Oct 22, 2020 / Jene Park

The smartphone display market is witnessing an increasing rate of adoption of flexible OLED applied with new technologies such as LTPO OLED and foldable display. After 2021, LCD is expected to show a sharp decline due to the loss of price competitiveness. On the other hand, Rigid OLED is expected to see an increase in market demand from 2020 to 2021. But with the reduced gap between the market unit prices of rigid OLED and LTPS LCD, the business profit margin is decreasing, making it difficult for display companies to invest in rigid OLED on a large scale. As such, the supply of rigid OLED is expected to be limited. Meanwhile, as price competition among major flexible OLED suppliers is intensifying, the price of flexible OLED is expected to drop sharply. Therefore, flexible OLED is expected to show highest growth in 2020-2022.
