Wi-Fi Motion Sensing: Adding Value to Home Networks

Wi-Fi motion sensing is an emerging technology, leveraging existing Wi-Fi networks to detect movement in the home. Historically uptake of the technology has been limited, but major internet service providers (ISPs) have begun adopting Wi-Fi motions sensing, with Deutsche Telekom most recently showcasing Wi-Fi sensing at MWC 2025. More intelligent gateways and AI algorithms are improving motion sensing accuracy and capabilities, increasing value. This report discusses technical requirements, industry adoption, challenges and the opportunity for ISPs and gateway vendors.
