Overview:  In Q4 2024, global VR headset shipments surged by 214% Quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) but declined 5% Year-over-year (YoY) . The significant QoQ growth was driven by the launch of Meta Quest 3S, alongside Black Friday and Christmas promotions. In full-year 2024, the global VR market remained sluggish, declining 12% YoY. In Q4 2024, the newly launched Meta Quest 3S became the world's best-selling VR model, fueling a sequential surge of over 300% in Meta's VR sales.

Global shipments of AR smart glasses fell by 12% YoY but surged over 100% QoQ in Q4 2024. For the full year 2024, global AR smart glasses shipments marked an 8% YoY decline. Birdbath-based video watching AR glasses remained the dominant category, growing 27% YoY in 2024. In contrast, waveguide-based information display glasses saw a sharp 67% decline.

In this report, we have further adjusted our forecast for global XR headset shipments downward for 2025 and 2026. Smart glasses without see-through displays and optical components, such as the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, have shown stronger short-term growth potential compared to AR/VR devices.
