SK hynix generated $15.5 billion in memory revenue in Q2 2025, tying with Samsung for the No.1 position in the global memory market, according to Counterpoint Research’s latest Memory Tracker. This milestone underscores SK hynix’s growing leadership and momentum in both DRAM and NAND segments.

Senior Analyst Jeongku Choi said, “SK hynix saw its largest-ever quarterly loss (₩3.4 trillion or $2.7 billion) in Q1 2023, prompting painful decisions such as production cuts. However, backed by world-class technology, the company began a remarkable turnaround, kick-started by the world’s first mass production of HBM3E in Q1 2024. By Q1 2025, SK hynix had claimed the top spot in global DRAM revenue, and just one quarter later, it is now competing head-to-head with Samsung for leadership in the overall memory market.”

In contrast, Samsung Electronics reported a 56% YoY decline in operating profit this quarter. While shipments of HBM3E to AMD and Broadcom in the second half of the year are expected to support a recovery, uncertainties remain around deliveries to NVIDIA. Besides, tighter export restrictions on sales to China are likely to limit the overall growth in Samsung’s HBM shipments in 2025 compared to the previous year.
