Motorola is often left out in the discussion on top-table smartphone makers, but its performance over the last five years tells a different story. The brand has nearly doubled its global smartphone shipment volumes from 2020 to reach its highest ever shipments in 2024. The brand has grown with a CAGR of 15% over the period, becoming the world’s seventh largest smartphone brand in terms of volume in 2024.
What is truly remarkable is not just the number, it is where the growth is coming from. Motorola is one of the few brands that has managed to recover following the 2022 market downturn while also surpassing its pandemic era peak shipment levels. Although the overall global smartphone market’s shipments in 2024 were below 2020 levels, Motorola's shipments in 2024 were a remarkable 75% higher than its 2020 levels. This momentum was driven by Motorola’s strong regional performance and its strengthening performance in emerging markets. The strategic focus on affordability and diversification has helped Motorola gain consistent market share across multiple key regions.
