Key Takeaways:

Global BEV sales increased by 40% YoY .
China dominated the market, making up 55% of global BEV sales, followed by the US and UK.
BYD Auto retained its position as the top BEV seller globally after dethroning Tesla in Q4 2024.
The Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3 and Wuling Hongguang Mini EV were the best-selling models.

Top 3 BEV Players:

BYD Auto: In Q1 2025, BYD recorded a remarkable 39% YoY increase in sales. The Seagull, Yuan UP and Song emerged as its top-selling BEV models during the quarter. BYD also exported over 200,000 vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, with one-third of these exports going to Europe, followed by Latin America and Southeast Asia. The strong performance in Europe was largely driven by the brand’s sales debut in Russia.
Tesla: Tesla’s sales in Q1 2025 declined by 13% YoY. The Model Y and Model 3 retained their positions as the best-selling BEV models worldwide.
Geely Holdings: Geely’s BEV sales soared by an impressive 105% YoY in Q1 2025. Its Galaxy and Geometry sub-brands contributed to 60% of the company’s total BEV sales. The Geely Geome Xingyuan (also known as Star Wish), Panda Mini and Geely e5 were the brand’s best-selling BEV models, together accounting for nearly two-thirds of its total BEV sales.
