Market Highlights

  • The pure-play foundry sector grew 30% YoY in Q1 2026, primarily driven by surging AI GPU and ASIC orders, including for advanced packaging.
  • TSMC captured 73% of the pure-foundry market, supported by its accelerating N3 ramp, strong N4/N5 utilization from AI GPUs, tight supply in mature nodes amid capacity adjustments, and increasing CoWoS capacity.
  • Samsung held the No. 2 position, though its market share slipped slightly QoQ as yield progress on leading-edge nodes remained gradual. Samsung Foundry is prioritizing yield improvement on its SF2/SF2P process to regain competitiveness at the advanced nodes.
  • SMIC delivered a new record quarter in Q1 2026, securing the No. 3 spot in terms of revenue with 93.7% utilization rate.
  • Looking ahead, we expect utilization at advanced nodes and total wafer shipments across major foundries to continue rising throughout 2026 amid order migration driven by TSMC's capacity adjustments.

Market Highlights

  • The pure-play foundry sector grew 20% YoY in Q4 2025, bringing full-year 2025 revenue growth to 26% YoY. This strong performance was mainly driven by robust demand for continued momentum in AI GPUs, ASICs, and accelerators on 4/5nm.
  • TSMC maintained its dominant position with a 72% share of the pure-play foundry market, supported by the ramp-up of N3 in smartphone and PC applications, solid N4 demand from NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPUs, and continued contribution from CoWoS.
  • Samsung ranked second with a 7% market share. The company remains focused on improving yields for its SF2 process, while also seeing solid traction in SF4, driven by demand for HBM4 logic dies.
  • SMIC once again set a quarterly revenue record in Q4 2025, reaching a 5.3% market share. Growth was supported by strong domestic demand under the “China-for-China” trend in consumer electronics, along with continued expansion in 12-inch capacity.
  • In 2026, we believe not only advanced nodes but also parts of the 8-inch segment to see improved utilization. Combined with a broad-based increase in wafer pricing, this is likely to further support foundry revenue growth in 2026.
