Apple was the top 5G smartphone brand, followed by Samsung. Both the brands together contributed to 73% of the 5G smartphone shipments in Vietnam in Q2.

Vietnam’s smartphone market reached a major milestone in Q2 2025, with the share of 5G smartphones in its overall shipments hitting 50% for the first time. This comes less than a year after Viettel Telecom rolled out the country’s first 5G network.

5G smartphone shipments grew 13% YoY in Q2 2025, despite the market challenges and macroeconomic uncertainties leading to a decline in overall smartphone shipments. This indicates a positive demand for 5G devices since the service’s rollout. Telecom operators have partnered with OEMs and retailers by offering 5G data at low prices with new smartphone purchases. Moreover, the average selling price (ASP) of 5G smartphones declined by 12% YoY in Q2 2025, making these devices more accessible for consumers.

Global OEMs have been at the forefront of 5G smartphone shipment growth in Vietnam, with the top two global brands – Apple and Samsung – contributing to 73% of 5G shipments in Q2.

Among all the OEMs, Apple was the largest contributor to 5G smartphone shipments in Q2 2025 with a 40% share. The consistent discounts and offers on new and older iPhone models made the devices more affordable for consumers; the market uncertainties had little effect on Apple shipments. The iPhone 16 Pro Max was the most shipped 5G model in Q2 2025, followed by OPPO’s Reno14 F.

Samsung took the second spot in terms of 5G shipments in Vietnam, with 60% of its shipments being 5G smartphones. Viettel Telecom offered three months of free 5G usage (up to 3GB/month) on the purchase of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series models.

More OEMs are catching up on the 5G trend and launching 5G variants of their models, which were previously missing in the Vietnam smartphone market. OPPO took the third spot in 5G shipments largely due to its Reno14 series, an all-5G series for OPPO this time in Vietnam. Additionally, customers using Viettel SIMs with any Reno14 series device received 30GB of free 5G data.

Xiaomi introduced the Redmi Note 14 with 5G support in Vietnam, a notable upgrade from the Redmi Note 13, which was limited to 4G. Similarly, vivo transitioned from the 4G-only Y29 to the 5G-enabled Y39 this year, reflecting a broader push by Chinese OEMs to add 5G models to their portfolios.

With the launch of more 5G smartphone models across various price bands, 5G device adoption in Vietnam is expected to accelerate further. For the whole of 2025, 5G share in Vietnam’s overall smartphone shipments is projected to exceed 50% as improved network coverage reaches even rural regions and OEMs expand their 5G portfolios. As a result, more consumers nationwide will experience the benefits of 5G, fueling the market’s evolution toward faster, more reliable connectivity.
