Highlights:
The global XR headset market shipments declined by 21% YoY in Q4 2022. Shipments for each of the device types saw a quarterly decline. The decline can be attributed to the lack of prominent launches in recent quarters and a dearth of compelling use cases.- VR headsets (standalone) remained the dominant form factor, contributing 94% in Q4 2022 as opposed to 91% in Q4 2021.
- The top three brands captured more than 95% of the XR market. Meta maintained its towering presence while DPVR supplanted Pico to regain the second place after three quarters.
- In 2022, VR is expected to maintain its position as the primary component of XR, accounting for over 95% of all shipments. While the Chinese market holds significant untapped potential, it is growing at a slow pace due to a lack of consumer-oriented headsets that provide sufficient value for widespread adoption.
