September handset sell through improved as demand grew 4% compared to last month but annual growth was barely above zero. US and European markets were robust but China was still a bit weak in spite of heavy sell-in.
Smartphones are now almost 62% of the market. Android share is 77% as iOS rebounds to 14% after a weaker August and Windows Phone flat at below 5% share.
Samsung’s share falls as it gives ground to Apple in the $400+ premium market with tough competition from local smartphone brands in sub $150 price bands in some markets such as China & India. Nokia recovers slightly as the price cut and aggressive sell through activities work out especially in feature phones.
