MWC2017 and the IoT Revolution

IoT Revolution -2017 Summary

After many years of talk and theory, MWC2017 showcased a multitude of real world IoT applications.  The numerous announcements showcased the transition to Internet of Everything (IOE). To sum things up the following are the major announcement that will be stepping stone for IoT in 2017.

• Nokia announced 5G FIRST, an end-to-end 5G product stack offer to global operators.  Nokia and Intel collaborated on commercial deployments that will happen later in 2017 using the Intel® 5G Modem .The solution will help  in transition to new application that will benefit from the low-latency and high data rates offered by 5G.
• ZTE announced a 5G base station that will support 3GPP’S new radio interface and mainstream 5G bands.
• Ericsson and China Mobile have jointly developed a 5G-enabled Smart Factory prototype using key 5G Core Network technologies – Network Slicing.
• Telit showcased HE922-3GR, a device for real time remote monitoring and positioning connected IoT
• A joint venture between SingTel and Ericsson resulted into an IoT solution, Assured +. It will support IOT application to provide connected life management for consumer.

• India in IOT :

  • Tata Communications (TATACOMM) is teaming up with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to build the pan-India IoT network. Tata‘s ambition is to provide IoT services to 400 million people spread across more than 2,000 communities. Tata is banking upon the LoraWAN network technology to connect devices, application, and other Iot solutions. Catering the needs of smart building, campus, securities and healthcare industry.

Qualcomm Technologies becomes the first company to offer an LTE-capable chip, Snapdragon 210, which will run Android of Things. It will allow developers and manufactures to use the Google Cloud Platform and services over 4G LTE in their IoT Solution. Qualcomm Technologies showcased its commitment towards IoT last year when it acquired CSR plc, an IoT focused company for $2.5 Billion. The chip maker continues to invest heavily towards R&D for IoT solutions.

Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, introduced “The Cinterion Connect Shield”. An intelligent modem chipset optimized for low power IoT devices that can deliver extended battery life. It includes rapid migration to the lastet NB-Iot standard.

Intel introduced the  XMM 7560. The new chip is the first Gigabit LTE modem manufactured on Intel’s 14nm technology and is designed to handle 5G Internet of Things applications.
