Overview:

The India smartphone market grew by 16% YoY in Oct 2023, driven by the elongated Festive season sale which started early during the month. 5G smartphone models were one of the major talking points for OEMs during the sale, resulting in 5G shipments rising 2X YoY in Oct 2023. Apple and vivo were the leading 5G brands during the month.  Samsung led the India smartphone market with 16.4% share in Oct 2023, driven by its increasing focus on the premium segment. vivo was at a close second spot with 16.1% share driven by its T series and the new V series models. The online share in Oct 2023 was at 49% with Xiaomi leading brand on the channel followed by Apple. ‘Big Billion Day’ and ‘The Great India Festival’ hosted by Flipkart and Amazon were the major attractions during the month. The promotions for festive season sale were visible on both offline and online platforms with diminishing differences in offer prices between the two channels.

India Q3 Smartwatch Shipments Hit Fresh High; Domestic Manufacturing Share Zooms to 82% From 4%

India’s smartwatch shipments grew 21% YoY in Q3 2023 (July-September), according to the latest research from Counterpoint’s IoT Service. The growth was driven by high inventory build-up for the festive season sales in October. Some interesting insights include

India Monthly Smartphone Market Analysis 2023 Sep

Overview:

The India smartphone market declined 2% YoY but grew 37% MoM in Sep 2023 driven by the imminent Festive season preparation led by e-commerce platforms Amazon and Flipkart. Indian smartphone market ASP grew 7% YoY and reached $286 (Retail) in Sep 2023. The shipments in (>$650) price band have grown by 36% YoY while the shipments in $250-$400 price band have also grown significantly by 54%.

Samsung held a leading position with a 19% market share driven by Galaxy A14 5G and Galaxy A04e. The top five smartphone brands contributed 65% share in the overall shipments in Sep 2023. Chinese brands share accounted to 72% in Sep 2023 driven by vivo, realme Xiaomi, Oppo.

India Monthly Smartphone Market Analysis 2023 Aug

Overview:

The India smartphone market grew 1% YoY and 10% MoM driven by Great Freedom Sale and 5G launches in $120 – $180 segment leading to faster uptick in 5G share. According to our latest forecast, the Indian smartphone market will decline by 2% YoY to reach 145 million shipments in 2023. However, ASP is expected to reach the highest ever levels. Xiaomi regained the no.1 spot after declining almost for a year with 18% market share. Launch of affordable 5G devices coupled with offline expansion drove this growth.
